When a moisture bearing sample comes in contact with the infrared spectrum, sensor heads in the moisture meter, show the absorbance of the rays of the sample and according to the level of moisture changes are noticeable at distinct wavelengths electrically.

The moisture meter uses a measurement technique which electronically converts absorbed infrared rays into a numerical value which indicates the moisture level.
