General Overview

Photosynthesis active radiation, often abbreviated PAR, designates the spectral range (wave band) of solar radiation from 400 to 700 nanometers that photosynthetic organisms are able to use in the process of photosynthesis. This spectral region corresponds more or less with the range of light visible to the human eye. Photons at shorter wavelengths tend to be so energetic that they can be damaging to cells and tissues, but are mostly filtered out by the ozone layer in the stratosphere. Photons at longer wavelengths do not carry enough energy to allow photosynthesis to take place.

Other living organisms, such as green bacteria, purple bacteria and Heliobacteria, can exploit solar light in slightly extended spectral regions, such as the near-infrared. These bacteria live in environments such as the bottom of stagnant ponds, sediment and ocean depths. Because of their pigments, they form colorful mats of green, red and purple. These organisms must make use of the leftovers discarded by the plant kingdom.

Usage Of PAR Measurements

PAR measurement is used in agriculture, forestry and oceanography. One of the requirements for productive farmland is adequate PAR, so PAR is used to evaluate agricultural investment potential. PAR sensors stationed at various levels of the forest canopy measure the pattern of PAR availability and utilization. PAR measurements are also used to calculate the euphotic depth in the ocean. PAR is normally quantified as mol photons/m2/second, which is a measure of the photosynthetic photon flux (area) density, or PPFD. PAR can also be expressed in W/m2. Because photosynthesis is a quantum process PPFD is generally used by plant biologists, but W/m2 measurements are important in energy balance considerations for photosynthetic organisms.

Function Overview

1. The sampling interval can be automatic or manually programmed by the user.

2. The system have online real time display feature, the data and real time parametric curve can be displayed simultaneously to the host computer as well as the equipment screen

3. The system can work in three different modes

Manual mode: In this mode the user needs to select the time interval of data storage. There is manual start and stop function to be used in a field for varied on the spot applications. The data is stored with respect to the real time and then the same can be transferred to the computer in the laboratory.

Automatic mode: the first time interval is set up, apparatus in accordance with predetermined time interval automatically record data. After data collection, data can be sent to the computer, the software will automatically generate the curve of graphics can be printed and data processing

Computer lock mode: all the keys on the host computer failure (lock button), in accordance with the computer set time interval automatic sampling, to ensure data authenticity and continuity of the system. In this mode the system will be locked and the setting cannot be altered during the set programmed time interval.

4. AC-DC dual-use, you can get the field data collection at any time measurements can also be placed on record a long time location.

5. Power data retention capabitiy, can retain upto 30000 entries till you transfer the data to the computer system.

6. The equipment is provided with an elaborate computer software capable of detailed data processing and analysis. The software can be utilized for data collection.
